We welcome all Erin residents and other interested parties to join us at our four membership meetings, usually held on the third Wednesday of the months of March, May, September and November at 7:00 P.M. at the Erin Town Hall (1846 State Highway 83 South in Thompson, Wisconsin).
Everyone is also welcome to join in on the planning and development of the Erin Historical Society by attending the four board meetings usually held on the third Wednesday of the months of February, April, August and October also at 7:00 P.M. at the Erin Town Hall.
The society does not hold meetings in the months of January, June, July and December. After working out of “Lucy’s Horseshoe” for the past five years, our lease expired at the end of 2011 and we will be holding our future meetings and activities at the Erin Town Hall.
This year’s March membership meeting, on March 21, 2012, will include an insider’s view of the historic St. Patrick Church of Erin and its “Save St. Patrick” organization. Local preservationist, Maureen Fitzsimmons-Vanden Heuvel, will be on hand to discuss the history of St. Patrick’s church and cemetery, including its current status and future plans. Local historian, Nancy (Collins) Henke, will also bring copies of her historic book, “St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – Thompson, Wisconsin – 1855-2005 – Celebrating 150 Years” to sell. Being so close to St. Patrick’s Day, we will welcome one and all to come “wearin’ o’ the green.” And there will be Irish snacks to keep up our strength.
This year’s May membership meeting, on May 16, 2012, will begin at the special time of 6:00 P.M. to allow us to start with an old-fashioned (and free) “Picnic Supper.” As we dine and visit, we plan to have a “Collection of Collectors” to discuss and share their personal treasures, usually of an historic nature. And we hope those attending will consider bringing their own personal collections –large or small – to discuss and share. We hope there will be a great deal of historical learning going on in a fun-filled setting.
Plans for the September 19, 2012, and November 21, 2012, membership meetings will be provided in future Town of Erin Newsletter articles.
